It’s been an incredible first year at Eye Do Make Up.  We’ve had some lovely brides at beautiful locations around Somerset and Devon in the UK.

November is traditionally a quiet month for weddings – we finally had a chance to look through the photos our gorgeous couples sent in after they returned from their honeymoon.  We’ve put a few together for you to enjoy!

PS We are already taking bookings for 2014, which is very exciting.

A glamorous bride

We found this post on http://www.inspiredesigncreate.com – and we like it!

I had the pleasure of attending a wedding this past weekend with a retro rock vibe.  I was also able to do the bride’s makeup!  I snapped this photo before her false lashes were added (so you can see more the look of the eyeliner).  Also, I applied a red lipstick on her for the reception, but we kept it more subtle for the ceremony with the soft peachy pink lips below.

Wedding Trends: Dramatic Gowns From Oscar De La Renta’s 2013 Collection

8 May

We stumbled upon this article today in the Huffington Post (Huffpost Style/ Canada) and couldn’t resist sharing it with you:

The breathtaking gowns in Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2013 bridal collection prove the designer is a master of his craft.

While many of the gowns showcase his signature romantic aesthetic (draping, lace, and classic silhouettes), we’re smitten with the less-traditional gowns in his collection.

From a vermillion velvet sheath to a bridal pantsuit, the designer’s edgier creations challenge the popular notion of “wedding dress.” Why not wear a pastel, floral-patterned ballgown on your bid day?!

Here are some of the most dramatic looks from the collection.

Would you wear any of these offbeat bridal looks?

Statement jewellery, the latest trend

17 Apr

Once again we’ve been snooping around some US blogs and websites to find out what is trending on the other side of the Atlantic.

On our reading travels we’ve come across an interview with Richard Wubnig, the jewellery department manager for Michael C. Fina, THE must stop location for brides in New York: Located on Fifth Avenue, Michael C. Fina sells lots of lovely things for weddings, special occasions and lifestyle.

According to Richard Wubnig, who has been a part of Michael C. Fina for almost 11 years, the hottest trend in jewellery for brides right now is statement necklaces.

Apparently the change towards statement jewellery all goes back to last year’s royal wedding: “Kate Middleton’s gorgeous gown is leading brides towards simple, more sophisticated dresses” said Wubnig. “For these simpler dresses dainty jewelry will no longer do the trick. In order to show personality brides are turning towards statement necklaces.”

Currently the hottest color rush for brides is blues and purples, explains Wubnig. “It really does show the individual,” he said of choosing colorful statement pieces. Besides blue/purple color combinations, Wubnig said that silver/greys and rose/gold are becoming popular choices. “It’s a modern twist on very traditional.”

Trending this season are also vintage inspired pieces, as well as nature and tribal. To get the vintage look with a statement necklace Wubnig suggests colored pearls. For a nature or tribal inspired look, the jewelry department manager recommends green and oranges for a more “organic feel.”

To incorporate a bold bracelet or earrings, Wubnig suggests turning towards a dainty necklace.

“It really comes down to the individual,” said Wubnig. “Michael C. Fina is dedicated o helping every bride-to-be find the perfect jewelry for her special day.” Brides are encouraged to bring photos of the dress so that they find a necklace that not only suits the gown, but also the bride’s personality. Wubnig explained that they generally try n about 10 to 15 pieces. In special cases they accompany brides to dress fittings so the bride can “see the complete look in the mirror.”

“We like them to try everything on,” he said. “We want her to have fun. We want her to put on things she never put on before. You only get one shot at this so we want to get it perfect.”
