What Rachel said about us

14 Jun

What can I say about Jane and ” eye do makeup “, everything about my experience was fantastic. After searching for a make-up artist for months and deciding I was going to do my own as I was unable to afford the astronomical prices that some were quoting I was completely thrilled to find Jane.

From the moment I first spoke to her I felt completely at ease with her. Nothing was too much trouble. I arranged a trial visit for both myself and my maid of honour one Saturday at Jane’s home. Only a couple of days before we were due to go I asked Jane if we could fit my mum in as well as I thought she needed some convincing. Jane was extremely accommodating. Even after arriving more than an hour late ( I totally under- estimated the travelling time from S. Wales) we were all made to feel very welcome. Our trial appointment I expected to last about 2 hours, I think in all we were there more like 3 or 4, I’m sorry Jane for being so indecisive. By the end Jane’s husband had even gone to rescue by dad from the car he was waiting in for us and was supplying us all with coffee and biscuits. On leaving we were all very happy with our trials and the time Jane would arrive at St. Audries was arranged.

Only 1 week before the wedding I started to panic. I thought the dramatic eye make-up style I had chosen would look very dated on our photos in several years .I was also concerned that the base Jane had used would not give me enough coverage over hyper-pigmentation I have following laser surgery for me to be happy all day . I emailed Jane and asked if she would mind going for a more classical vintage look for both my sister and me and also if we could use my own base. Again this was not too much trouble. Jane said she would arrive an hour earlier than planned and bring her entire kit. When our day arrived, so did Jane as promised complete with her entire kit. She spent hours on my mum ( who arrived late again), my sister and myself. She was fantastic. She didn’t even mind my photographer getting in the way with her lense. I think to be honest she was probably extremely glad (not that it showed) when it was over and she could relax. Especially as Jane later explained that she’d been panicing before arriving herself. She’d discovered in a conversation with a friend that morning that there were no registrar booked for our venue for that day. The relief was visible on her face when in a very subtle way she found out we were having a humanist ceremony! I would have no hesitation in recommending Jane to any future bride or anyone in general and would even go as far as saying don’t bother with anywhere else it would just be a waste of time.

The overall result was an extremely happy bride, maid of honour and mother of the bride who didn’t need to touch our make-up all day, well apart from the lippy. Thank you Jane so much for everything you did.

From Model to Real Bride: A wedding dress off the rack

23 May

Trawling the web tonight we came upon a couple of articles about the dress Priscilla Chan chose for her wedding with Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.  Quite refreshingly, she bought her dress off the rack – and here are the articles we found on The Gloss (www.thegloss.com)

The Zuckerberg Wedding Dress Is Selling Out Everywhere

Posted 23 May 2012 at http://www.thegloss.com

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg got married this weekend to longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan and the wedding sounded super low-key. …Maybe even more low-key than we thought: turns out Chan bought her simple Claire Pettibone dress off-the-rack (scandal!).

The delicate laser-cut floral gown adorned with matte sequins lined in silk goes for $4,700–a pretty astonishing amount when you consider that celeb weeklies routinely run stories about famous people getting custom Vera Wang or Armani gowns for tens of thousands more.

Pettibone, it turns out, was also surprised to learn of Chan’s decision. Many stores that carry her designs have been inundated with orders since Saturday and traffic to her website spiked ten times the usual draw. She spoke with Buzzfeed Shift about the shocker this week and ruminated on Chan, the dress itself and larger trends in bridal:

I love that she chose that dress, I think it’s perfect for her. It has an understated quality that suited the intimacy of the event, but it still had detail and sparkle and beautiful elements about it. She’s educated and independent and chose something, I feel, that really suited her and her personality. That’s a trend that’s just really gaining momentum — women are getting married a little older, they’re more independent, and really making choices about their dress and how it express who they are more than they used to, when it was a little more about pleasing everyone else. I’m a little rebel in the bridal world in my approach. I do things that are a little different and unique. I think that’s what makes us all wonderful, is that we are different.

We also learn that Pettibone doesn’t even know where Chan bought the dress (“We’re honestly not sure. I think she may not have used her actual name”). And, of course, WWD reveals that the knock-off process has begun:

The company also heard from its Italian fabric supplier, Sky Between the Branches, Monday morning “to warn them that another designer wanted to purchase the exact fabric of Chan’s gown, but, lucky for Claire, she has the exclusive rights to that particular beaded fabric.”

Who knew Chan had this kind of influence.

Mark Zuckerberg Got Married (Here’s The Wedding Dress)

Posted 21 May on http://www.thegloss.com

Mark Zuckerberg must be having a good few days: He’s got more money than God and David Bowie combined, and he just got married to longtime girlfriend Priscilla Chan. The announcement was made on Zuckerberg’s Facebook page, obviously.

The two were wed in a small backyard ceremony in Palo Alto, California on Saturday. Guests were under the impression they’d be celebrating Chan’s graduation from medical school.

Zuckerberg designed the wedding ring–a “simple ruby sparkler”–himself. Attendees dined on sushi and chocolate mice. Here’s one more glimpse of the dress:
